We're a small start-up looking for a skilled Rails developer to come on board and take the technical lead before we launch.
THE BUSINESS
This is a billing application that helps anyone with a revenue share-based business model manage their partners, contracts and transactions. One customer we're talking to has 1300 partners and 200 million transactions annually. We are mainly targeting new media companies and service providers.
THE APPLICATION
The application runs on Ubuntu, PostgreSQL, EC2 and has one component written in C++ for heavy-duty data processing. You don't have to take ownership of the C++ code, but you will be in charge of everything else. It's less than 10k lines of Ruby code and you should be able to master it pretty quickly. The application is almost finished.
THE TEAM
We are one technical person plus two people in sales and business development. Two of us have 10-15 years experience in telecommunications and billing and are well connected in this space.
THE OPPORTUNITY
We are bootstrapped, but expect to generate revenue pretty quickly because of our unique value proposition. We are going to give you a significant percentage of the equity to come on board now and you will be the first person to get paid once we start making money. We're hoping you can allocate 10-20 hours a week here in the beginning. (telecommute) at: USA,CA, Santa Monica

We’re a small, highly profitable company.
You’re a code ninja.
Let’s write sweet, sweet code together.
We already have three popular, viral apps and we’re looking to expand our small team. There’s so much demand for our products that we need great people right away — this is a huge opportunity for the right person.
Some details:
0) You’ll be asked to own development of entire apps, from DB to app code to basic design.
1) You’ll be expected to code fast and well, with little hand-holding.
2) We’re built on LAMP, but have used Ruby on Rails in the past. We’re pretty much technology-agnostic — no set rules, just using the right tool for the job. If you don’t know PHP, that’s no biggie. You can learn it.
3) Bonus points for any/all of these skillz: memcached, jQuery-fu, visual design sense, Facebook API, OpenSocial API, Twitter API, Ruby / Rails, sysadmin-fu, sick chops on a musical instrument
Compensation will be salary, equity, medical, dental, vision, and epic times.
We’re in the midst of getting an office but we’ll be in the Mission.
If you think you might be a good fit, get in touch right away. Thanks for your time!

We're looking for an experienced UI designer for a part-time, short-term contract gig.
Graphics design experience is welcome, but we're looking for someone who's focused on making the user experience better, not making the buttons prettier.
Experience working within a Rails team is required. We need someone who understands how Rails builds pages from partials within layouts.
You'll work for the CTO, but primarily with our CEO to define the screen contents and controls.
We need a committment of at least 15 hours per week. More is better. Pay is somewhat negotiable, DOE, but we're targeting the $20-30/hr range. European and Eastern European candidates are especially welcome as our CEO will be working from France for the next couple of months. US-based candidates are also welcome, but hours of availability are important.
Feel free to contact me if you'd like more information before applying.

Working With
We’re looking for a fourth person to join our full-time team, though exactly what sort of person is the first job we’d like you to help us with.
About us
We’re a small digital agency operating out of a North London studio which we love. We also love what we do.
Don’t let all this ‘loveliness’ distract though. We’re dedicated and serious about what we do, and expect the people we work with to feel the same about what they do.
What we actually do is work with businesses of all sizes on building digital solutions that fit their businesses and budgets. Be that a CMS driven website or aggregating 3rd party tools and services.
Clients and Associates
Our size gives us the agility to work with a broad range of clients, from independent artists to international furniture manufacturers, via NESTA supported start-ups, collectives and renowned design agencies.
The job
The core of the role is working with Rails in a supporting role to our Technical Director. In addition to this, knowledge of the following will add great weight to your application:
Ruby (not just Rails)
TDD
Git
Javascript
HTML/CSS
Full time £20K – £30K depending on experience.
The ideal candidate
Your first brief then is to help us define the level of your role:
Are you a junior developer, or relatively new to Rails from another background, and wishing to dedicate your energies and grow your skills on a variety of projects?
Or are you more mid-weight in experience, and able to make this role your own and convince us that your abilities are what our company should be investing in?
Either way, either level, we want someone who can be part of our team as opposed to just working in it. We’re looking for your ideas as well as your skills.

Location: Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex
Compensation: $40/hr(C2C all inclusive)
Position: 6-month contract likely to extend up to 1 year. Work remotely from home.
** Candidates must be U.S. Citizens or Permanent Resident (Green) Card holders **
Description
This is initially a 6-month contract but is likely to extend to up to a year. Also, this contract allows you to work from home. You will likely meet other team members once per week but you'll be working remotely most of the time. Because of the in-person team meetings weekly or biweekly, we can accept only local candidates at this time.
The company provides a service, primarily to the mortgage industry, acting as a processor for IRS and SSA requests for income and identity verifications. The customer uses an existing online application (Ruby on Rails) to enter information for the request. They then fax official documents to the company. The back office operation then matches up the faxes with the online orders, formats them properly, verifies that all the information is legible, within the legal requirements for the request and then batches the requests for processing by the IRS or SSA. The current implementation has some software to support operations but still involves quite a bit of paper copying and scanning. The system under development has a goal to eliminate all paper and dramatically improve back end operator throughput.
The back end is Ruby on Rails 2.x (Linux) with PostgreSQL database. Knowledge of Oracle and/or SQL Server 2005/2008 is a big plus considering the backend database is going to change to one of these very soon. The new front end is Flex 3 (Flash 10). Flex 3 experience is a plus but not required. The new system will run parallel with the existing system with the longer term goal to eventually replace the existing system completely. Performance monitoring, reporting and dashboard type views are also planned.
Required Experience
- Ruby on Rails 2.x
- Linux
- PostgreSQL database or other database experience
- FLEX 3 (Flash 10) experience a plus but not required

Does the idea of developing a white label version of the Facebook Platform attract you? Do you think you’re capable of developing a docking system that would easily give an embedded web application access to a host website’s resources?
If so we’d like to hear from you. Your role will be to develop simple, lightweight ways in which one web application can dock with another application and interface with the host’s authentication, billing and messaging systems.
Who you are
You will be someone who loves working through the entire technology stack, database to browser. You love great software and efficient software development and build applications for yourself and others just as an excuse to learn new languages and technologies.
You are comfortable with techniques such as XP that allow a software team to execute effectively but also want to exploit similar short feedback loops applied to the customer discovery side of the business. You are familiar with and interested in the Lean Startup methodology.
As much as you love the elegance and power of good architecture, your number one focus is delivering software to do the job and you pride yourself on doing that well. When work is over you like to go away and live the rest of your life to the full and you have hobbies or sports you love to pursue.
Who we are
We are Yola, a $25M VC backed startup in SOMA San Francisco. With over 2M users in our first two years of operation we are building out an online publishing platform for businesses and are one of Business Week’s top 50 startups to know about in 2009. Our CEO, Vinny Lingham was recently nominated as one of the Young Global Leaders of the year by the World Economic Forum.
You will be the lead engineer for Clickpass – a company acquired by Yola and which is now building Yola’s platform strategy. You’ll get all of the all the equipment you need, great benefits and free lunches (delivered in). Most importantly you’ll also get to work with great people including former Googlers, EBay-ers and dyed-in-the-wool startuppers.
